Art of Fiction Writing
Novelist Elizabeth Stuckey-French presented on revising fiction, followed by a reading of her own work and a book signing and reception. Stuckey-French put a passionate and humorous spin on the subject of revising narrative prose, by walking through her own revision process for one of her published stories, titled Junior. She admitted that while she felt quite positive during the first revision of her story, she then was told that the piece “got worse” rather than better after revision. She described the process of saving drafts, “re-envisioning” the story, and ended with the specific approach she took to achieve the finished form of Junior. She used handouts as visual aids, and there was a question-and-answer period.
The event was sponsored by the Department of English.
