Art and Science at UCF Research Week
As part of UCF's 2007 Research Week a special exhibit showcasing the blending of Art and Science was held. Art and Science have long interacted in numerous ways - from the beauty in early scientific illustrations made by naturalists such as John James Audubon, to the stunning visualizations made possible in modern scientific imaging. Further, many artists have themselves developed their own amalgam of scientific and artistic expression. The exhibit was created to foster these forms of creative endeavor. Research Week's Art and Science exhibit showcased images of scientists with unique expressions of the beauty inherent in their work. UCF students and faculty also presented the beauty of their own creative work with artistic expression. The student submissions, listed below, included a diverse range of works - from electron microscopy and micro machines to imagery from virtual reality games created to teach the humanities. Organized by Drs. Eloy Hernandez, Beatriz Roldán Cuenya, and Stephen M. Fiore, the event was supported by the Chemistry, Physics, and Philosophy departments as well as the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST), The Burnett Honors College, College of Optics and Photonics, NanoScience Technology Center, Office of Research and Commercialization, Student Government Association and the Division of Graduate Studies.
